Course Details

Announcement: Please note this course is a family gathering for all ages, so each participant will need to register. Course Objectives We expect students to demonstrate basic outdoor competence by participating in weekly games, activities, workshops and sit spots. Students will demonstrate proficiency in the big 4 (shelter water fire food) by building, carving, and practicing the techniques instructors teach and facilitate during class. Students will choose at least one topic that inspires them to study, practice, experiment with and dive deeper into with the guidance of our instructors, the community and nature itself. Examples of Skills Taught Sit spot meditation journaling ecology taxonomy ethnobotany morphology biology Survival skills shelter water fire food wood working leather working medicinal/edible plants and much more Wandering nature-based games navigation/getting lost and found tracking and awareness bird language About the Course Our family gatherings facilitate community by encouraging different age groups to come together to solve problems, play games and triumph over challenges. We will make fires, cook food, go on wanders, play games and learn survival skills. Family gatherings are a great option if you are new to the outdoors but will still challenge even experienced outdoorsmen.
